Index.php Preface to Heymann Genealogy Family, To Know oneself, One MUST know from where one comes,

Introduction to this Web Site

To Know oneself  - To find a path along which to tread in life -  One MUST know from where one comes !

A person only dies - when ALL memory of him is lost or forgotton, it is then that one is  lost to the world !

What are YOU going to leave behind in this world after you die, what will there in 200 years - dust ?
( Children, good deeds, big structures, works of art, but eventually all that is nothing )

Genealogy is that knowledge which enables ones family to continue to live in to the future.

Genealogy brings back to life ones ancestors.

Until my mid 30's I thought that my living relatives were limited to a few cousins in New Zealand, America, and Israel. I also thought that my family lineage was unexciting, that I was not related to anyone famous or who had lead an exemplary life, nor was I descended from any one famous. I thought that I had no "yicus" (Yiddish for lineage, but is typically applied to someone who has ancestors who are renown).

Now after 25 years of  research, but more particularly the last 10 years, especially with the advent of the Internet, I have discovered that my family is directly connected to many famous people (Rabbi's, Poets, Scholars, Bankers, Court Jews, Scientists, thinkers & intellectuals, leaders of communities, etc), and can be traced back in three lines to King David of Ancient Israel. And not only that,  but the story (the history) of my family, is fascinating, at times dramatic, sometimes dangerous, sometimes sad, but always rich and colourful.

Now, as you can see there are more than 15,000 persons in my genealogy database !

What a revelation my genealogical research has been.

If you are visiting my site, I hope that you too can discover all the bits of the puzzle in your family tree and fit the jigsaw together
